Midwife
Contact Name: Akal Khalsa Address:
P.O. Box 934 Broadway NSW 2007
Phone Number: 02 9660 2127 Service Description: Akal is a pioneer in independent midwifery in Sydney and has been assisting women to birth calmly and confidently in the security and privacy of their own homes since 1979.
Akal believes that the way in which a woman births is vitally important. It can have a profound effect on her self-esteem and be reflected in her ability to confidently mother her children.
To assist in this process she offers her services to those women who see birth as a natural, normal, healthy life event. The advantage of one-to-one midwifery care is that it enables you to discuss every aspect of your care during your pregnancy. You are a crucial part of the decision making process and it allows you to explore and optimise your birth options.
You will receive individualised antenatal care throughout your pregnancy. During each visit, you will have a full antenatal check with ample time to ask question about your pregnancy and pending birth. You will have telephone access between visits to answer any concerns as they arise.
Akal will attend you for the full duration of your active labour and for a minimum of four hours following birth. Home visits are made following the birth to observe your progress and to check the baby. She will answer your questions and assist you on the care of your new baby.

Workshops are held in NSW, Melbourne,Tasmania and other places by request.
Jane is author of "Ten Moons - The Spiritual Journey of Pregnancy, Preparation For Natural Birth" , this is available for purchase along with other booklets she has written about the menstrual cycle, from her website - www.moonsong.com.au
Jane is founder and midwife of The School of Shamanic Midwifery - a women's mystery school. schoolofshamanicmidwifery.blogspot
I have just attended my third 'Pregnancy-the Inner
Journey' workshop. I am 30 weeks pregnant with my second child. The wisdom and
insights shared and gained have been just as profound as my first workshop with
Jane, which I attended prior to consciously conceiving my son. The nature of the sacred space that is created by Jane
and the other women attending allows an incredible opportunity for insight and
healing. I felt very safe, held and heard and so very blessed to witness the
vulnerabilities and deep wisdom of the other women. Together we all weaved a
web of love, support and understanding. I feel wonderfully empowered as a woman and in awe of
the mystery and magic of pregnancy, birth, mothering....life !! I believe all women, pregnant or planning on being
pregnant, would greatly benefit from this workshop!! Emma Berry, NSW
A women gathering is always a
wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our selves and remember how special and
unique females are, but Moonsong was much more than this: I discovered the
little goddess that lives inside me and forms part of an ancient sisterhood
perfectly synchronised with the rhythms of natural cycles, from the circle of
life and death to the changes of seasons, the moon phases and our most inner
being. Everything is interconnected and beautifully woven by the old wisdom
of Herstory, which must be remembered and cherished by every woman to be
kept alive. Jane guided us into our untold story with her sweetness and charm,
she made us smile and laugh and cry and feel grateful for being part of such a
wonderful universe. A life changing experience. HO! Martina, Manly NSW
