Contact Name:
Akal Khalsa
Address:

P.O. Box 934 Broadway NSW 2007

Phone Number:
02 9660 2127
Service Description:
Akal is a pioneer in independent midwifery in Sydney and has been assisting women to birth calmly and confidently in the security and privacy of their own homes since 1979.
Akal believes that the way in which a woman births is vitally important.  It can have a profound effect on her self-esteem and be reflected in her ability to confidently mother her children.
To assist in this process she offers her services to those women who see birth as a natural, normal, healthy life event.  The advantage of one-to-one midwifery care is that it enables you to discuss every aspect of your care during your pregnancy.  You are a crucial part of the decision making process and it allows you to explore and optimise your birth options.
You will receive individualised antenatal care throughout your pregnancy.  During each visit, you will have a full antenatal check with ample time to ask question about your pregnancy and pending birth.  You will have telephone access between visits to answer any concerns as they arise.
Akal will attend you for the full duration of your active labour and for a minimum of four hours following birth.  Home visits are made following the birth to observe your progress and to check the baby.  She will answer your questions and assist you on the care of your new baby.

'I have just completed your Breastfeeding Simply ebook and it is just fantastic. I am a midwife, a lactation consultant and a breastfeeding mum and have never read such a comprehensive book that is also easy to read and follow. I am going to adapt my practice to a few of your ideas! It is just full of common sense and the best part is that you can incorporate your own style into the advice. This means that you don't have to compromise your own beliefs which inturn makes every little bit of information really work.

Your book is a must read and should be on every woman's (and man's) bookshelf. Thank you so much for your effort, you really have changed the way I look at breastfeeding and I know that my little boy, Luke, will benefit from all your knowledge and practical tips. THANK YOU SO MUCH."

Service Description:
The birth of a child is a sacred and unique journey for every woman,
baby and her family. The choices about where and how to give birth to
your baby are very personal. I am able to provide information about
the birth options available to you.

As natural as it is to conceive your baby in a loving, safe and
intimate environment, birthing at home gives you the freedom to follow
your body’s instinctive knowledge of birthing naturally.
Alternatively, continuity of midwifery care provides an
individualised, continuous and supportive environment if you are
planning to birth in hospital.

With many years experience as a midwife, I offer a holistic,
professional service throughout your pregnancy, labour and birth and
for the few weeks following the birth of your baby.

The people listed here are doulas or midwives who can provide breastfeeding support as part of their broader service.

However for a breastfeeding expert see a Lactation Consultant, as these professionals have a greater breadth and depth of knowledge to help with breastfeeding problems.
